Helping Haiti

What are some of the main projects?

The work will be focused at a Dessalines Hospital, officially known in Haiti as Claire Heureuse Hospital and located in Marchand Dessalines, 100 miles north of the capital Port-au-Prince. The Claire Heureuse Hospital, also known to the expatriate world as the Dessalines Rural Health Project or D.R.H.P., is a thriving center serving a local population of 250,000. The official Mission Statement of the hospital is to "Heal, Prevent Illness and Evangelize."

While there, the team will be involved in projects to repair or improve the hospital. Each team member will be taking a carry-on with their personal belongings and two other bags that will be filled with supplies for the projects.

Another item that will be taken to Haiti will be water filters. Clean water is a desperately needed resource so that diseases such as cholera are not spread through the population. Some of the monies collected by the church will be used to purchase as many Sawyer PointOne filters as possible. These filters run $50 each and you can donate to this cause by going to the How can you help? page.
For more information on what these filters are and how they work, go to the Sawyer PointOne website.

The recent outbreak of cholera left the hospital drastically in need of medical supplies. This is another area where you can help by donating money or specific supplies. See the How can you help? page for more details.

The team will also be using money to purchase animals for Haitian families. Money you give can go towards the purchase of a chicken or a goat.  These animals will be given to families to help make an economic difference for them.  Even one farm animal can make a big difference - giving milk, eggs, and sometimes meat to sustain life.

Chickens - $10
Goats - $60
